In 2009 while fulfilling his assignments in college, his peers and instructors called his work “brutal, gory and chaotic,” often in black and white focusing on varying line weights used to draw the viewers in close to appreciate the little details. Mixing graffiti, comic books, horror films and the love of heavy metal music, he began his freelancing career designing logos and t-shirts for local bands. As it neared time for him to graduate, his teacher gave him a fortune cookie that stated, "Before the beginning of great brilliance, there must be chaos," which ultimately birthed chaosartdesigns and matured his work into a defining style.
Today Bret continues to apply his love for intricate line work with his new passion for vibrant, bold, poppy colors allowing the viewer to look at the overall piece, or step in for a closer look so they can get lost in the details.
As a freelance illustrator and graphic designer his work ranges from commercial business logos, branding identities for the clothing industry to wakeskate, wakesurfs, and skateboard graphics for various companies in the extreme sports world.
In between commissions, Bret creates abstract canvas art mixing texture, splatters and geometric line work and is constantly developing and practicing new ways to merge his love for digital art, graffiti, and graphic design into his chaotic style.
